Become Involved In Your City’s Future

Add your voice together with those of many other concerned Pacifica citizens like yourself, who believe in holding our elected officials and civic leaders accountable for protecting the quality of life in our community.

Our city’s draft for a new Pacifica General Plan and Environmental Impact Report was released in the first week of January 2022, followed by a 45 day comment period—the minimum legally required. We should all be concerned that citizen participation in drafting this important document is limited to such an unusually compacted process.  A city’s General Plan and its elements are the guiding standards on which to base its land use and development decisions.

Pacifica’s General Plan is woefully out of date, one of the oldest in California, with some elements dating to the 1980’s. The Safety element, which determines whether a development or land-use decision is safe in case of fire, flooding, landslides and earthquakes, has not been updated since 1983. Pursuant to California Government Code, all California cities must set forth their development policies, objectives and standards in a General Plan. The California Supreme Court held the General Plan to be “the constitution for all future development.” Simply stated, “our General Plan is our single most important city planning document.”

Join us in asking our city leaders to allow more opportunities for Pacifica’s citizens to participate in planning our town’s future.

YOU ARE PACIFICA is an existing network of highly qualified Pacifica citizen volunteers – city planners, architects, former city council members, scientists, environmental specialists, and community organizers. We support responsible development, affordable housing, environmental stewardship, a sustainable economy, campaign contribution disclosure, responsive city governance, and community engagement.

We support responsible development -- preserving the natural beauty and recreational opportunities enjoyed by our citizens and visitors, while providing affordable housing and sustainable resources to ensure opportunities for future generations. We believe our City Government should prioritize the rights and needs of Pacifica Citizens over the irresponsible profiteering of outside interests.

Irresponsible development exposes Pacifica families to serious hazards, including wildfires, landslides, and contaminated beaches. Overdevelopment can lead to failing infrastructure – water, sewerage, energy supply lines and roadways – often resulting in drastic insurance rate increases and a real possibility of unusable evacuation routes.

“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” —Jane Jacobs
